High Demand Raises Scalping Concerns

Priced at around $100 and sold exclusively through Valve’s platform, the Steam Controller has already become a target for scalpers. As of May 4, listings on eBay show resale prices ranging between $200 and $250.

Experts advise consumers to avoid purchasing at inflated prices, noting that restocks are expected soon following the initial surge in demand.

Steam Machine Hype Continues to Grow

The Steam Controller is considered a key component of Valve’s broader ecosystem, particularly for the upcoming Steam Machine. Previously delayed due to rising RAM and storage component costs, the console is expected to feature a compact 6 x 6-inch design.

VR industry insider Brad Lynch recently shared on X that a large shipment of gaming consoles has arrived at Valve’s warehouse, further fueling speculation about an imminent release.

Meanwhile, Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffais confirmed that pricing details for the Steam Machine will be revealed soon. Market analysts and leaks suggest a price point of around $600.

Griffais emphasized that the pricing strategy is based primarily on production costs rather than aggressive competition. Compared to similar PC hardware, the Steam Machine is expected to fall within a comparable price range.

Can Steam Machine Compete With Traditional PC Gaming?

Despite its relatively high price tag, the Steam Controller has already captured the attention of gamers. The bigger question now is whether the Steam Machine can deliver the right balance of performance and affordability to attract PC gamers to a living room experience.

As anticipation builds, only time will tell if Valve’s vision can successfully redefine how players engage with PC gaming.

What do you think? Can the Steam Machine truly bring PC gamers to the couch?
